San Diego is a fantastic year round destination. The 70 miles of coastline along the Pacific Ocean, San Diego beaches for families make it a great vacation spot.
Here are our favorite beaches in San Diego for frolicking in the sand or catching waves on the boogie board.
Best San Diego Beaches for Families
Coronado Beach
Head across the Coronado Bridge into the charming town of Coronado Island and straight to the Hotel del Coronado.
I like the beach in front of the hotel so we can use their clean restaurants and order food & drinks at several of the outdoor restaurants. The waves are mild, the sand sparkles with the mineral mica and the kids will love picking up sea shells along the rock wall.
You may get lucky and snag street side parking on Ocean Boulevard, or you can also park at the hotel for a fee.
La Jolla Shores
The sunset at La Jolla are like any other. You can watch the sunset from Kellogg Park or along the shore. Or you can head a few minutes over to the La Jolla Tide pools to catch crab and watch the surfers ride the waves.
Carlsbad Beaches
Looking for a quiet beach away from the crowds? Then drive along the 101 and you will find several beaches that are perfect for alone family time. Great for kids wanting to boogie board without getting in the way of others.
Mission Beach
This classic boardwalk beach town is great place to catch the souther California vibes. Grab a boogie board at one of the surf shops or head to Belmont Park for a ride on a roller coaster.
Del Mar
With beautiful views of cliffs and bluffs, Del Mar is great place to relax for the day. It has shallow sandbars and is a great place for families with small children. If you are looking to build a massive sand castle, then this is your beach since the waves won’t be knocking it down.
Things to do at the beach to remember forever
The beach is a place where there are plenty of opportunities to create fun and memories. From finding pebbles and shells on the beach to sporting activities, the beach is a great place to be for kids.
You could look at getting involved with some local classes, perhaps scuba diving which would be great fun, as well as boating. You could look at fishing trips, which will allow you to learn about the area and maybe even find something delicious to eat for lunch. In addition to this, you must also see if there are any tours available as this can be a great way to make memories.
Something such as a dolphin cruise, where you can see these beautiful creatures in their own environment. You may also want to look at doing this at sunset, as there is nothing more magical than watching the dolphins swimming up and down over the waves as the golden hue sets in the distance. Take some time to find out about the locals and what they do in the area; for example is there a clean up the beach programme that you could get involved with whilst you’re there. Doing your little bit for the planet is a wonderful and fulfilling activity to take part in, even if you’re on vacation! Take time to plan well and enjoy your incredible time in San Diego! Because there is plenty to enjoy and lots to remember.
