Exploring the charming town of Fredericksburg, Texas is a must! It’s a fantastic destination for a weekend getaway and here is list of what to see, eat and do around town.
When I first visited the Fredericksburg area 15 years ago, it stole my heart. There is something magical about the Texas Hill country. It’s the sprawling country side, endless shopping, amazing wineries, delicious restaurants and fantastic lodgings
If you have never been to the Texas Hill country, then you need to stop what you are doing and head there now!
Things to Do in Fredericksburg, Texas
Stay at a 1960’s Motor Lodge
Stonewall Motor Lodge is 1960’s roadside motel that is nestled on the famous Hwy 290 Wine Trail. The hotel was recently restored to feature modern technology and luxurious furnishings while still keeping the vintage vibe.
After a day of shopping in Fredericksburg or sipping on wine, grab some friends and head to the back of the property where you will find vintage patio chairs and Christmas lights strung from the giant oaks trees. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy the outdoors.
Step back in time
Head to the Hye Market for lunch. It’s located in the historic Hye Post Office built in 1886 and still operates today. Try one of their famous sandwiches and be sure to grab dessert. Their sea salt chocolate chip cookie with fudge are what dreams are made of!
Shop til you drop
Be sure to head to Main St. in Fredericksburg for shopping. There are a plethora of antique, boutiques, furniture stores and everything in between found – no wonder it’s called Shopping Heaven.
Become a whiskey connoisseur
Visit Garrison Brothers Distillery for a whisky tour and tasting. Grab a seat at a picnic table or wooden rocking chair, which are located all around the property, and relax while learning all about bourbon.
Go on a wine tour
Have a glass or two at one the 40 wineries and distilleries that sit along the Texas 290 Wine trail. Enjoy a day to explore picturesque vineyards, charming tasting rooms and sweeping views of the rolling hills in the Texas Hill Country.
Tour a Brewery
Alstadt is an authentic Bavarian brewery, restaurant and event space. But it’s anything but ordinary. Start your experience off with a tour of the beautiful brewery and then enjoy your dine experience with a Bavarian pretzel as an appetizer, fish and chips for your main course and the mouth watering chocolate brownie topped with vanilla bean ice cream.
