When to go apple picking in Texas
Typical harvest times for Texas apples is July through October. Of course, this always depends on fruit variety, weather, and location. Weather is sometimes unpredictable in Texas and can alter picking times from year to year.
Best Apple Orchards in Texas to Visit
Apple Valley Orchard, Llano
This 32-acre orchard has a variety of apples, peaches, plums, figs, and blackberries available for picking. Typically runs from July through October.
The orchard only allows u-pick on certain days, so best to call before you go. They do however have a storefront where you can always purchase items such as apples, homemade jams, cider, pies, ice cream, and other homemade baked goods.
Efurd Orchards, Pittsburg
This small family farm offers a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. During the fall months, guests can enjoy picking (or purchasing from the store) apples, plums, sweet potatoes, blueberries, blackberries, and pumpkins.
You can’t leave the farm before you try out their peach and vanilla ice cream. It’s delicious!
Henrietta Creek Orchard, Roanoke
Located about 30-minutes from downtown Fort Worth, you’ll find this gorgeous orchard. They partner with schools, researchers, universities, and other organizations to host field trips and other events.
This seasonally u-pick orchard has a variety of apples that include Golden, Fuji, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Winesap, and Enterprise. Apple picking at this orchard typically runs from mid-September until October. They post update times on their Facebook page.

Love Creek Orchards, Medina
This is a Texas Hill Country favorite farm. Starting in 1981, it has grown into a cafe, fruit market, and pick-your-own orchard.
At the apple, store guests can purchase everything from varieties of apples, fresh fruit, apple pie, jams, turnovers, strudels, and apple ice cream!
Picking season typically begins with blackberries in April, peaches in June and July, and apples and figs in July and August.
Along with apple picking, they also host an annual pumpkin patch featuring fresh-pressed apple cider and of course an apple eating contest.
Sonlight Apple Orchard, Mason
This u-pick Texas apple orchard has been around since 1984 and here you can find some of the best apples in Texas!
They claim that their apples have 14% more sugar than other apples in the country and 41% more sugar than the ones you’ll find in the grocery store. Making these the sweetest apples in the United States.
While at the orchard, visitors can visit The Apple Barn, a historic rock barn built in the 1860s. Guests can also book a room at the Apple Cottage Bed and Breakfast which is a house in a historic building circa 1877.
Sweet Berry Farm, Marble Falls
Located an hour northwest of Austin, this Texas Hill Country experience is the perfect place for the whole family to pick apples.
Besides apple picking, they also have a petting zoo, giant maze, corn maze, and their famous apple ice cream.
The Greer Farm, Daingerfield
Not only does this farm offer apples for the picking, but they also have figs, plums, blackberries, and blueberries. They also offer private cooking classes throughout the year.
Guest can also rent a cabin that overlooks the 11-acre pond. You can enjoy a true farm experience for a day or weekend. While on the farm visits can enjoy the sheep, chicken, pigs, cattle, and other farm animals.
The Orchard, Idalou
This is the state’s only certified organic orchard and is open Tuesday through Saturday. They offer seasonal produce throughout the year.
During apple-picking season guests can enjoy a hayride, u-pick apples in the fields. There is an apple country store on site that is open from 10 am to 5 pm.
