Fredericksburg and it’s surrounding towns are filled with plenty of shopping, unique music venues, adorable 1960’s motor lodge and over 40 wineries, distilleries and breweries all along the Texas 290 Wine Trail.
Located in the scenic Texas Hill Country and about 1 hour from Austin, sits the Texas 290 Wine Trail. The majority of the wineries can be found between Hye and Fredericksburg. Here is a list of all the wineries and distilleries you need to visit while in town.
Best stops along the Texas 290 Wine Trail
Kuhlman Cellars
Grab some of their homemade herbed almonds, a glass of wine and head up to the 2nd floor outdoor patio at Kuhlman Cellars. Sit back, relax and enjoy the sweeping views of their beautiful vineyard. Feel free to wonder through the vineyards – it’s the perfect place to get some photos!
Pedernales Cellars
Here you will find the largest underground wine cellar in the state of Texas. On the tour you will see how the grapes are being fermented and taste wine straight out of the barrel! Their outdoor tasting room offers breathtaking views of the Texas Hill Country and will have you wanting to sit outside all day.
Hye Market
This is the ultimate lunch spot. Hye Market is located in the historic Hye Post Office built in 1886 and still operates today. Try one of their famous sandwiches and be sure to grab dessert. Their sea salt chocolate chip cookie with fudge are what dreams are made of!
4.0 Cellars
The wine and cheese pairing is like anything else! They offer 5 artisan cheese that is made from Texas as well as the perfect wine that complement the cheese.
Garrison Bros
Visit Garrison Brothers Distillery for a whisky tour and tasting. Grab a seat at a picnic table or wooden rocking chair, which are located all around the property, and relax while learning all about bourbon.
Pontotoc Vineyard & Weingarten
While in downtown stop by for a wine tasting. Pontotoc Weingarten is located in the oldest building in Fredericksburg. They are also known for their homemade sangria that is absolutely amazing.
Alstad Brewery
End your exciting day on the Texas 290 wine Trail with dinner at Alstadt, an authentic Bavarian brewery, restaurant and event space. But it’s anything but ordinary. Start your experience off with a tour of the beautiful brewery and then enjoy your dine experience with a Bavarian pretzel as an appetizer, fish and chips for your main course and the mouth watering chocolate brownie topped with vanilla bean ice cream. You can thank me later!
Stonewall Motor Lodge
Not sure where to stay? I highly recommend the Stonewall Motor Lodge that sit directly on the 290 Wine Trail. The hotel was recently restored to feature modern technology and luxurious furnishings while still keeping the vintage vibe.
The hotel features 12 rooms, 5 full hook-up RV spots and 4 cabins. They also have an adorable 2nd floor outdoor deck that overlooks the 3 tree-filled acres.
