I think we can all remember the most embarrassing moment in our lives. Mine happened one hot August morning while I was moving into the dorms my sophomore year of college. How could I forget it, I still have the scar.
I remember checking into the dorms and being excited to see all my friends and be back at school. It was before lunch, but so brutally hot. I decided that I could carry the last remaining items all at once because I was hot and dripping with sweat. That was my problem – I turn into a crazy person who can’t think clearly when I’m hot.
Anyways, I just knew I could carry the boxes and my new lamp up the entryway steps, into the elevator and up 20 floors. I only made it up the second step when I decided to trip over my own feet. In a split second I had to decide if I was going to drop the boxes or my $10 lamp from Walmart.
Of course I dropped the boxes (I didn’t want to hurt the lamp), fell and scraped my knee. And by scrape I mean I tore the skin off my knee and blood was dripping down my leg. I had to pick myself, the boxes and lamp up and wait in line for the elevator. All while everyone is looking at me like a weirdo because I was all bloody and sweating.
Once I made it to my room, I learned that my new roommate and her parents were waiting to meet me. Let’s just say I didn’t make a great first impression. But after all that, I am happy to report that my cheap Walmart lamp was not damaged in said incident.
And that my friends is the story of how I fell up the stairs.
