Is it possible to always keep your cool around toddlers? No, the answer is no! But, since toddlers require parents to have endless amounts of patience we don’t have a choice but to try our hardest.
I am not the most patient person, but when it comes to my little guy I try to be as patient as can be. It’s not always easy, but here a few ways that help me a more patient mom.
Plan ahead. We all know that getting kids loaded into the car or grocery shopping takes longer with kids in tow. So by planning to take your time at the grocery store instead of trying to get in and out in 20 minutes will help you not feel rushed and constantly trying to hurry the kids. (Why is it they walk as slow as possible when we are in a hurry?)
See it from the child’s view point. Of course it’s going to take a toddler awhile to put his clothes in the dirty clothes hamper or to clean his room. Instead of being impatient because it takes awhile, encourage them for actually helping. Whatever the activity they are doing, they are still learning from the experience and it’s worth a little extra of your time.
Breathe. Just take a deep breathe and go in the other room for a few minutes.
Play with your kids. Having fun and joining in on playtime can be fun and a stress reliever. It’s also hard to be patient if all you are doing is monitoring and telling them what to do.
